Quaint and Charming Early Fall Wedding with Bergundy Tones at Rose Oak Acres, St. James, Missouri

Let me begin this preview by stating that this is the most sentimental wedding that I have had the pleasure of featuring on the Journal, because this happens to be my sister and brother-in-law’s wedding!

Katelyn and Brandon tied the knot on September 21st at the charming little wedding venue - Rose Oak Acres, situated quaintly in St. James, Missouri. The day was forecast to be all clouds and rain due to a hurricane in Texas, but as it turns out it was sunny, breezy, and pleasantly warm.

As guests arrived to witness the ceremony, they were greeted with a “guest bench” to sign that Brandon built to replace the traditional guest book. Lovely music filled the air from a flute and guitar duo as parents and grandparents were seated and the bridal party took their places. When the preacher raised his arms and asked for guests to rise, Katelyn stepped out from the balcony and walked down the stairs and the aisle arm in arm with her father, smiling brilliantly with every step. The magnitude of the moment was beautifully overwhelming, and the majority of the guests, bridesmaids, and parents were all tearing up. Even Brandon couldn’t hold back his tears at the sight of his gorgeous wife. Their ceremony was short and very sweet, with a remembrance ceremony, planting of a unity tree, and the traditional vows and first kiss. As guests applauded, the new Mr. and Mrs. walked up the aisle, hand-in-hand, while their friends and family enjoyed a greenery toss of olive leaves to celebrate.

Highlights

  • Katelyn and Brandon decided to experience an intimate first look at their ceremony site on their wedding day. The sun was tucked behind the hazy clouds and offered the most perfect lighting scenario for this lovely moment. Speaking from experience, I know that Brandon is the type of guy that does not show a lot of emotion, but he could not hold back his tears when Katelyn tapped him on the shoulder and he turned to see her beaming with a smile all dressed in white.

  • Shortly before Katelyn would see Brandon during their first look moment, I held her hand and offered up a prayer over their wedding day and their marriage. We were all overwhelmed with emotion and happy tears!

  • One of the most talked about events during the day was the live musicians that Katelyn and Brandon hired to play during their ceremony. Howard and Smyth, a flute and guitar duo from Missouri and our dear friends, filled the air with the most sentimental melodies, including “Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton and “Take Me Home, Country Roads” by John Denver! All of the guests were complimenting on how lovely this live musical touch was during the ceremony.

  • Just before the beginning of their dollar dance, Brandon auctioned Katelyn off to the highest bidder for the first dance (resulting in a whopping $100 bill!).

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Sands! Bless your marriage!
